Urban design and development study of the former industrial sites in Seraing, Belgium.
The departure of the steel works (Arcelor) will profoundly transform the city, free several hundred hectares of extremely polluted land and require the urban restructuring of 900 hectares. Unlike the case of Montpellier, this project is conceived in a context of reduction of the population. It requires establishing a contractual relation between the city and industry, dealing with the overall ecology of the site from the ground up and building an “urbanism of enhancement” that can be attractive for new investors who are capable bringing about a profound urban and social change in the city.

Mixed planning:
Housing, shops, public facilities. Development of an urban redevelopment programme with habitat as the essential component. Proposals of mobility plans and plans for planned roadway development corresponding to the needs of the proposed redevelopment programme. Proposals of solutions for attenuating the existing urban constraints. Projections of the future demographic and socio-economic landscape of the zone, evaluation of the costs of implementing the redevelopment programme, drawing up a complete financial study proposing private or public partnerships for developing the zone.
