This project, associated with the finance district, is the vehicle for an international image that symbolises the modernisation and development of Morocco’s economic capital.
“Work Package 37” embodies the continuity of an urban narrative that began at the dawn of the 20th century and is now projected into the 21st.
Beyond the functions it comprises, it must provide a passage between two eras, two scales and two ambitions. For us, it is first of all a question of space.
The project we want to bring to fruition will be part of the new district of Anfa, but is itself conceived of as a district. Unlike single-function blocks, it is the public space that will be the major determining factor of the project, and its design must give legibility to each of the eras that comprise one and the same history. A hierarchised ensemble of open streets, squares and gardens structures the plan. But it is the “Aéroplace” that will federate these spaces and set the image for the whole.
We imagine it as a vast esplanade, 35 m X 150 m, bordered by the air terminals and punctuated by a covered market in the grand tradition of Casablanca’s public spaces. Around this timeless place, the modern city will then be able to develop at its own scale and with its own codes.
